Abstract: The exponential growth in science traffic today is motivated by the construction of new experiments, larger instruments, and better sensors. This accelerating demand for bandwidth has highlighted a simple fact, that continuing to just build bigger and faster networks is no longer a viable solution for science mission networks. This talk introduces the need for more intelligent and integrated networking, and identifies several “grand” challenges for science driven networks.
