SUMMARY:Programming and Profiling Modern Multicore Processors
DESCRIPTION:Tutorial\n\nProgramming and Profiling Modern Multicore Process
ors\n\nRuhela, Liu, Eijkhout, Lu, Koesterke\n\nModern processors, such as
Intel's Scalable Xeon line, AMD's EPYC architecture, ARM's ThunderX2 desig
n and IBM's Power9 architecture are scaling out rather than up and increas
ing in complexity. To achieve good application performance on modern proce
ssors, developers must write code amenable to vectorization, be aware of m
emory access patterns to optimize cache usage and understand how to balanc
e multi-process programming (MPI) with multi-threaded programming (OpenMP)
. \n\nThis tutorial will cover serial and thread-parallel optimization, in
cluding introductory and intermediate concepts of vectorization and multi-
threaded programming principles. We will address profiling techniques and
tools and give a brief overview of modern HPC architectures.\n\nThe tutori
al will include hands-on exercises. We will demonstrate the usage of profi
ling tools on TACC systems. This tutorial is designed for intermediate pro
grammers, familiar with OpenMP and MPI, who wish to learn how to program f
or performance on modern architectures.\n\nTag: Architectures, MPI, OpenMP
